What you need to know about ventilators

Not only the optical impression of a model is important. The technical aspect is also decisive for the perfect operation of your ventilator. A quality ventilator should run silently in continuous operation without overheating. For this, the selection of the motor and bearings is of great significance. Our ventilators are equipped with powerful, silently running motors. This is particularly important in bedrooms. The motors and blades are balanced so that the ceiling fan rotates without swaying or vibrating if it has been professionally installed.

Carefully plan the selection of your ventilator. The correct selection depends on various criteria:

Appearance

Select a ceiling fan to match your furniture, thus not only underlining your personal style but also creating a special ambience.

Equipment

With or without lighting (direct / indirect), with remote control or wall unit. Many models can be combined with additional lights or different blades – you will find all you need in our online shop.

Application areas

Ceiling, wall, table or upright ventilators for indoor or outdoor use, or in wet areas – anything goes. For sloped ceilings with an inclination of more than 30 degrees there is a special mounting aid so that the ventilator hangs in a straight position.

Size of the ventilator

Large ceiling fans always run more slowly than smaller models. Hence, the latter generate higher air pressure (i.e. the felt wind is more intense), but also increase wind noise. This must particularly be taken into consideration in bedrooms and rest areas.

Quantity and width of the blades

The more blades a ventilator has, the slower it rotates at each level. A ventilator with five blades has a lower ventilation power at its highest level than one with three blades. The same applies to the relationship between the ventilation power and the width of the blades. The wider a blade, the slower the ventilator rotates and the lower the ventilation power. But in general the quantity and width of the blades is adapted to the respective design and is therefore also a decisive optical aspect.

Summer and winter operating mode – what does that actually mean?

All our ceiling fans runs forwards and backwards. We refer to the forward motion (anti-clockwise) as summer operating mode, and accordingly to backward motion (clockwise) as winter operation mode.

In winter mode the ceiling fan can heat

Anyone who has ever stood on a ladder will have noticed that the air immediately underneath the ceiling is far warmer than the air near the floor. Depending on the room height, the difference may be more than 10 degrees. This unused hot air should be directed to where it is needed. A ceiling fan, slowly running in winter mode, moves the hot layers of air against the ceiling, thus causing a certain pressure. The hot air escapes downwards along the walls to the floor, where it conveys a feeling of comfortable warmth. Viewed mathematically, this can reduce the heating capacity by up to 30%, as the set heating temperature can then be lowered.

In summer mode the ceiling fan can "cool"

The fan starts the circulation of air, ensuring a faster exchange of air. This initiates skin surface evaporation, which is felt to have a cooling effect. The room temperature remains constant, but we perceive a cooler atmosphere.

Technical connection

Normally, a ceiling fan is installed we the connection for a ceiling light is positioned. This is possible without laying additional cables. You are then able to switch the fan to three levels via the pull chain and switch the light on and off separately by means of a second pull chain. When using a wall control unit, the existing light switch is replaced by the wall control unit, which is possible without additional cables, depending on the model of the wall control unit. Now the fan and the ventilator light can be regulated separately from the wall unit.

If the fan is equipped with a remote control unit or if you have retrofitted a normal ceiling fan with a remote control unit, only the existing cables of the ceiling connection and the fan are required to switch the speeds and light of the fan. Using a remote control unit, the light has an additional, infinitely variable dimming function.
